Intruder alarm systems in the UK have to conform to European Standards BS EN 50131 series.
EN 50131 defines four grades of Intruder alarm system, 4 being the highest. The grade is measured by how resilient the alarm system is to attacks by intruders and other outside influences.
All components of the system are graded, including the control panel, motion detectors (PIRs) and signalling equipment.
Whilst most installers will design a system using components of the same grade, it may sometimes be appropriate to mix grades of components. However, the overall system will be graded of that of the lowest graded component.
Residential installations will typically require a Grade 1 or 2 with larger homes falling into Grade 3. Most commercial premises will require a Grade 2 or 3 alarm system.
The majority of insurance companies require a Grade 3 system where the system is a requirement of insurance cover.
Intruders are expected to have little knowledge of the alarm system and may be restricted to a limited range of tools.
Intruders are expected to have a little more knowledge of the alarm system and use a general range of tools and some specialist equipment.
Intruders are expected to be conversant with the alarm system and have a comprehensive range of tools and portable electronic equipment.
When security takes precedence over all other factors. Intruders are expected to have the resources to plan an intrusion in detail and have a full range of equipment, including the means to substitute vital components in the alarm system.
Wireless alarms have come a long way over the years and are now as reliable as a wired alarm and with the same detectors and sensors available really do make a viable alternative to the hassle of a hard-wired system with all that entails.
There are lots of benefits to a wireless system here’s just a few of them:
Monitored alarm systems and contracts If you want more peace of mind that a problem at your home will be dealt with quickly, you could consider a burglar alarm with a monitoring contract. This is becoming more popular with people not wanting the hassle of self-monitoring it’s an alternative that more people are taking up every year.
We offer monitoring contracts for wired or wireless alarms.
There are two types of monitoring contract: keyholder and police response. In either case, you pay a monthly or annual fee, and then the monitoring company will alert a nominated keyholder or the police when the alarm goes off. The alarm system connects to a receiving centre, which is notified each time your alarm is triggered. First, the receiving centre will call your home's landline to ask for password identification. If this is incorrect or no one answers, it will take action. This is either to inform the keyholder(s), or to call the police, depending on what type of contract you have.
We have a 24/7 helpline for all our account customers that can be linked to your internal systems to ensure effortless continuity for any job that's outsourced to us. We have the same cover at 2am as we do at 2pm meaning we will be on-site in as little as an hour.
